What We Do
Mission Statement
Dream it.
Dewey set a good course in life. His energy was joyousness of spirit, love and friendship. He led by example and encouragement.
All we have to do is follow his compass heading leading to friendship, optimism and helping our friends and family to be the best you can be. Yes, you can.
Sports.
As a little boy Dewey used to go to the Wayland High School basketball games with his family. “I used to look up at the older players and wonder what it was like to be one of them”, Dewey would say. When Dewey himself became one of those players, he remembered his younger days. “I knew there was another little Dewey out there watching me and wondering what it was like”, he once said. I knew I had to show the younger kids the right way to play. The right way to be.”
Music.
Dewey was a self-taught drummer. He played with a local Band named Moose Juice and covered Grateful Dead and Phish music. Dewey was a devoted follower of Phish, having attended over 90 shows and musical events.
A Chance To Excel
Dewey clearly believed in going the extra mile.
“As you look back on your life, you don’t regret the things you did”, he said,
“You tend to regret the things you didn’t do, the things you look back on and say you should have done.”
Young athletes and musicians have an opportunity to use their talents to improve their quality of life. The Dewey Rosenfield Foundation helps kids focus on their talents and helps them to make the right choices as the key to self-improvement and a better life.
